2012 marks Moriarty’s 48th year in business at the Gap of Dunloe. Opened as a small souvenier shop in 1964 by Michael and Margaret Moriarty, today it is one of Ireland’s leading Gift Stores. Located at the entrance of the Gap of Dunloe, just outside Killarney, it is a bright and spacious store which caters for large tour groups and individual shoppers alike.
Quality has always been our motto. Quality of our goods and also as importantly, our customer service. Each member of our staff, all of whom are locals, have an average of over 20 years service with the family.
What began as a small enterprise in a ‘lean-to’ attached to my parents home is now a 4,000 sq ft store carrying some of Ireland’s finest goods. Our recently renovated Jewellery section has the finest collection of Irishmade goods in the country and our Exclusive range of tweeds and Handknits are unrivalled anywhere.
Our new website and online shop is an exciting new venture for us, and helps us reconnect with clients who have visited us in the past. Today, Denis Pio and wife Ailish operate the store and have extensive plans to expand in the next 12 to 18 months, including the installation of a viewing garden overlooking the Gap, along with an 80 seater restaurant as well as “working gardens” where much of the produce will be grown. Margaret Moriarty is still involved in the day to day running of the business, as is daughter Mary Anne. It really is a family business!
